Migration of Symbols

There are endless symbols all over the world. But some of them are found in different parts of the world, so they causes some confusions about their origin. Did their appearance in different places are just co-incident, or were they transferred from one country to another? In the ancient world there were many different route for trading and traveling. And that influenced the religious ideas, art styles of the world. Sometimes writers and artists traveled with the traders to communicate with another culture. Because of that, southeast Asia have Islam, Japan have Buddhism and south America speaks Portuguese. As the new culture and ideas were getting exchanged all over the world, so the symbols also. So many symbols also gained importance, even they are now so fare from their origin.
Like the Chinese Dragon. In China it is a symbol of glory or an Emperor and the sun. But in European Christian art its opposite.
